The Black Wall Street Arts Project is a bold initiative dedicated to honoring the legacy of Durham’s historic Black Wall Street while creating opportunities for future generations through the arts. Our mission is to celebrate cultural heritage, empower emerging artists, and provide transformative community programming that connects history, creativity, and education.
Through exhibitions, residencies, and educational initiatives, we aim to build a self-sustaining nonprofit organization by January–February 2026. Our focus includes youth engagement, community art activations, school partnerships, and artist professional development, all grounded in the cultural legacy of Durham.
The project will become a cornerstone for art, education, and cultural memory in North Carolina and beyond. By blending history with forward-looking creativity, the Black Wall Street Arts Project seeks to inspire generational pride, cultivate new collectors, and strengthen community resilience.
